CLARKSTON  PAVILION

CREATING A DESTINATION FOR COMMUNITY

Deemed “The Most Diverse Square Mile In America,” the city of Clarkston is home to a large refugee population from more than fifty different countries. Despite the numerous conflicts that existed among the refugee population in their various countries of origin, a refugee bond exists among them collectively that brings them together. However, to a certain degree it seems that the same sense of community is lacking between the refugees, or transient residents, and the permanent residents of Clarkston. The low volume of traffic and lack of consumer base relative to Metro Atlanta helps to explain the absence of developer interests as well as the high outflow of jobs for Clarkston residents. Designed for the needs of both its residents and visitors, the pavilion’s large scale and flexible program are purposeful in order to create a destination in Clarkston that keeps residents there while attracting others from the Metro Atlanta area.
